Noob mistake in writing

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Okay, I just made a newbie mistake in writing something, and all I can say is it is because it is almost five in the morning and I have been up all night.

So, what did I do? In writing first person narrative I was so fussy in making sure I stayed in first person (which I HATE to write) that I missed a small action that was GLARING as soon as I hit send and could no longer fix it.

The problem… well… I was adding to a write along story over at Writing.com and added a sequence where a character is reacting to another one and I typed…

(drumroll please)

……………………
“I know it sounds dumb, Jake,” Max’s eyes roll toward the ceiling, “but you’re two inches tall. How do you explain it?”
…………………….

Yes, that character’s eyes just popped out of his head and rolled through the air toward the ceiling. Or at least that is how it reads. ::pounding head on desk:: Why, oh why, do I only see things like that when I can no longer fix the error of my tiredness?

I think I best go sleep now. You can read the whole scene I wrote, or better yet, read and add to the entire interactive story at Writing.com yourself.

Working on fixing story display

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I am trying to fix how the stories are displayed, since there is something about how it is displaying that makes it difficult to read. I hope to have this cleared up soon, but not sure how to make it so the first paragraph does not show up beside the header information.

Delayed Site Relaunch

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I really had intended to get this site finished and back live, but things just kind of went downhill and got sidetracked and I have had no time to work on the site in weeks.

I suppose it works out, since I found a few bugs when I posted a test short story a few days ago. Primary bug having been that I had listed some ratings in the ratings system, and ended up with everything falling into the warning categories. Ooops. I’m working on a rating system now to fix that SNAFU and going to do just a bit more tweaking, then I should be able to unveil this sucker.

Phantasm: a trick of the mind
Scene: a setting in a story

This website has undergone a few changes over the years, and often they are because of my whim, this time, however, there were multiple circumstances that lead to the change, including a serious crash that lost a lot of stuff – including the blogs that had not got properly backed up. :-/ I hated to lose the stuff in them, but… was not by choice that I lost it.

So, the site is being reborn and this time I am taking it back to its roots. It is going to be one of my writing websites, a place where writing can be posted and shared and open to comments and critiques by those who might stumble across it.

This is the place where a writer can find out what the general public thinks about their work rather than having it tucked away in a critique group with their fellow writers reading it. This is not the place to post the things you want to sell, this is where you bring your drabbles and bits of fluff writing that will never be sold and are only good for getting feedback on what others think about your work.

Post writing prompt work, character building exercises, pieces that were no more than playing about with description… whatever you have that you want input on, or just want to share… that is what this site is best suited for.

Enjoy, and please, let me know what you think of it.
